Gore Captures Oakley SO-CAL Open
Monarch Beach Golf Links – an OB Sports-managed club located along the Pacific Ocean in Dana Point, Calif. – recently hosted the 2013 Oakley So Cal Open, and journeyman Jason Gore took top honors. He adds his name to the third-oldest championship in the United States (yep, hard to believe, but it’s true), overcoming a one-stroke deficit to edge out John Ellis of San Jose.
Gore, the 18-hole leader, rebounded from a second-round 72 with a 68 at Monarch Beach Golf Links to stay ahead of the charging Stephen Gangluff of Carlsbad. Michael Block, PGA Head Professional at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club was the low PGA Professional in the field at one-under par. And 18-year-old Jonah Texeira of Porter Ranch, Calif. was the Low Amateur finishing T-8.
Monarch Beach Golf Links joined Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club as co-hosts of the championship. By all accounts the teams lead by PGA General Manager Eric Lohman at Monarch Beach and PGA Head Professional Michael Block at Arroyo Trabuco provided a wonderful test of golf for the participants. Of course, a special thanks is in order for the sponsors of the event: Oakley, Matrix Shafts, TaylorMade, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Wahoo’s, Sysco, 1st & 10th Tee Bar, Pepsi, and Southern Wine & Spirits for making this such a great event.
Monarch Beach Golf Links is a wonderful property for all us hackers, too. With the adjacent resort – St. Regis Monarch Beach – it’s one of the best stay-and-play options in the Southland. Here’s a link to a few current packages.
