Drive, Chip and Putt: Grayhawk Golf Club Hosts Southwest Regional Qualifier
Grayhawk Golf Club is the proud host of the Southwest Regional Qualifier of Drive, Chip and Putt — a nationwide golf skills competition for children designed to introduce the game to diminutive duffers ages 7-15 years old. Scheduled for Sunday, August 25 from 7:30 am to 2:10 pm, the four age divisions for both boys and girls will compete in the qualifier in hopes of making it to the national finals to be held the week of the Masters next April at Augusta National.
Augusta National, PGA of America, and the United States Golf Association have collaborated on the event which drew nearly 30,000 registrants in its first year. As many as 1,760 youngsters are poised to participate in 10 other regional qualifiers around the country.
The field of nearly 160 set to compete at Grayhawk made it through local qualifiers that included participants from 11 states including Colorado, Texas, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico and others. As with any children’s event, families will be traveling to the qualifier together. Expected turn out is for 400-450 parents and family members in addition to the 160 qualifiers. Good luck to all!
