So Mike and Dave go fishing one fall morning on Apache Lake in the early ‘90s. The word “fishing” loosely applies to this particular outing since technically no fish were involved. With plenty of free time to discuss random stuff ranging from the latest episode of Baywatch to the fall of the Soviet Empire, the topic somehow got around to what to do when they grew up. Mike was a recovering golf pro who thought Dave’s PR and marketing job looked like fun. Dave thought hanging around golf courses like Mike did sounded pretty cool. And voilà, the idea to form a golf marketing and PR company was born! After all, like Mike says, “it’s not brain surgery.”
Of course, at the time there was no such animal to imitate. So with no money, no clients, no business plan and no worries, they did what anyone would do… started their own company. The idea met with mixed reviews: one wife was totally supportive; the other not so much. Nineteen years later, they still have no money and no business plan, but they do have some happy clients who have believed in them and have given them an incredible opportunity. They also have a group of very smart people around them who write, design, consult and generally help clients communicate a message. You can reach Mike at email@example.com or Dave at firstname.lastname@example.org. They would love to hear from you and tell you some more stories about the one that got away.
